Montreal Canadiens Noah Juulsen Out Indefinitly With Facial Fracutres

The Montreal Canadiens announced that defensemen Noah Juulsen is sidelined for indefinitely with facial fractures.

Noah Juulsen Injured

Juulsen took two pucks to the face in the first period of Monday’s overtime loss vs the Washington Capitals. Juulsen was taken to the hospital after taking the second of two shots to the face.

So far this season, Juulsen has scored one goal and four assists for five points to go along with six minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 47.7 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -4.9 percent.

Over his two-year NHL career, Juulsen has played for the Montreal Canadiens. He has two goals and six assists for eight career points in 40 career games. He was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens 26th overall in the 2015 NHL draft.

What This Means for the Future

The Injury to Juulsen comes with the news that Shea Weber is about two weeks from rejoining the Habs. Juulsen is one of Montreal’s young blue-liners who is finally getting an opportunities to play with the NHL squad. He has seen time both on the second and third pairings this season. In 17 games this season, Juulsen has shown his physicality and is leading the Habs with 54 hits. The Habs won’t have a tough time filling Juulsen’s role as the Habs have been rotating through defensemen this year to get everyone some playing time. Jeff Petry is the only defensemen who played in all 21 games for the Habs this season.  Karl Alzner will likely be slotted into the line-up until Weber returns. Once Juulsen is healthy the question will be if he fits into the line-up.

The Habs have also placed forward Nikita Scherbak on IR with a lower-body injury. Sherbak hasn’t played a game with the Habs this season and just finished a conditioning stint in Laval before being placed on IR again.
