The Carolina Hurricanes have released a pair of updates on the team. The Canes have named Justin Williams their new captain. They have also announced that forward Victor Rask is out indefinitely after injuring his hand in his kitchen.

Justin Williams Becomes 16th Hurricane Captain

The Hurricanes announced the news on Twitter today that Williams would serve as their 16th captain in franchise history. They also announced that Justin Faulk and Jordan Staal would be alternate captains. Williams, 36, is a lengthy NHL veteran who has won three Stanley Cups. One with the Hurricanes in 2006 and two with the Los Angeles Kings in 2012 and 2014.

Williams is a clutch player in the playoffs and is known for his leadership. The veteran winger has played 1162 NHL games and has 289 goals and 444 assists in that time. Williams will be a great leader for the young Hurricanes squad.

Victor Rask Out With Hand Injury

The other piece of Hurricanes news today was that forward Victor Rask sliced his hand and will be out indefinitely. According to the Hurricanes, he was in his kitchen and cut his hand while making food. Rask had a successful surgery on the hand and will miss the start of the season.

This loss will hurt the Canes as Rask is a solid piece on this forward group. He has 157 points in 313 NHL games. The 25-year-old was looking to have a big year and will surely be anxious to get healed and back in the lineup.
