Sabres Tyler Ennis Out Several Weeks

On Thursday afternoon, the Buffalo Sabres announced that forward Tyler Ennis will be sidelined for “several weeks” after undergoing a successful surgery to repair a groin injury suffered during the Sabres 4-0 loss Monday against the Boston Bruins.  Ennis did not play in Wednesday’s 2-1 shootout loss versus the Ottawa Senators.

Ennis will be missing significant time now for the second time in the past two seasons, having missed almost half of last season due to concussion-like symptoms.  His injury just adds to the long list the Sabres have suffered so far this season as well.  That list includes that now injured Ennis, as well as forward Jack Eichel (ankle), forward Ryan O’Reilly (undisclosed), defenseman Zach Bogosian (MCL strain), forward Nicholas Deslauriers (knee), and forward Evander Kane (ribs).

The 27 year old Ennis has struggled to get off to a good start this season, tallying only two points- a goal and an assist in twelve games played.  Ennis also holds a team worst -6 plus/minus record.  Since he is expected to miss what has been labeled as “several weeks”, Ennis can be expected to be back in the lineup, if all goes well, by mid-December.

In eight seasons, all with Buffalo, Tyler Ennis has played in a grand total of 380 games, scoring 93 goals and adding 132 assists.  He has a -61 plus/minus rating over the course of his career as well as 156 penalty minutes.  He has had three 20 plus goal seasons, his latest being during the 2014-2015 campaign (20 goals).  Ennis was the 26th overall pick (by Buffalo) in the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
