The Carolina Hurricanes have traded defenseman Justin Faulk and a 5th round pick to the St.Louis Blues in exchange for prospect Dominik Bokk, Joel Edmundson, and a 5th round pick. There were rumblings this off-season that the blueliner would be on the move, and the Hurricanes decided that now was the time. Faulk also gets a 7-year extension that has a cap hit of 6.5 million dollars. It will kick in next season.

Carolina Hurricanes Trade Justin Faulk
Justin Faulk stands at 6-foot-0 and weighs in at 215 pounds. In his eight NHL seasons, Faulk has skated in a total of 559 games, and has scored 85 goals and has added 173 assists for a grand total of 265 career points. During the 2018-19 campaign, Faulk played in the full 82 games, scoring eight times and notching 23 assists for 31 points total.
Faulk’s best season came in 2014-15 when he played 82 games for the Hurricanes and tallied 49 points (15 goals and 34 assists). He was drafted 37th overall by the Hurricanes at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He has 15 games played in playoff contention, for Carolina’s first playoff appearance with Faulk was just last season. Faulk has been pushed down the depth charts in Carolina with the emergence of young stars and newly acquired defence. He was playing a third-pairing role last season and was being used less and less.
The Canes get back a bottom pair defenceman in Edmundson and also a solid prospect in Bokk. Bokk was a first-round pick back in 2018 when he was selected 22nd overall. He should help give more promise to an already young Canes team.
International Resume
In regards to international play, Faulk has three bronze medals (2013 and 2015 World Championships and the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship), and one gold medal (2010 IIHF World U18 Championships). He also played at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Faulk represents his native United States of America, for he hails from South St. Paul, Minnesota. Faulk is a three-time NHL All-Star as well (2015, ’16, ’17).
Faulk brings something highly coveted to St. Louis, and that is him being a right-handed shot. So many teams in the NHL are looking for a right-handed defenseman, and Faulk can be a powerplay quarterback. He’s 27, a righty, has leadership skills and can put up points. Last year was not his best season, but expect Faulk to bounce back with his new team.
