Over his 10-year NHL career, Mitchell has played with the Montreal Canadiens, San Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres, and Los Angeles Kings. He has scored 67 career goals and 85 career assists for 152 career points in 666 games. Mitchell has added five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 79 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. He was originally drafted in the fourth round, 126th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Sharks. Last season he scored six goals and five assists for 11 points in 60 games. He also added 30 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 48.2 percent Corsi with a relative Corsi of -2.8 percent. Mitchell is coming off a three year, $3.6 million dollar deal with an AAV of $1.2 million that he signed with the Montreal Canadiens. He was traded to Los Angeles in November.
What This Means for Mitchell’s Future
Mitchell is a ten-year veteran who is still searching for a Stanley Cup ring. He will bring his experience with him to his new club. With him being in his late years expect Mitchell to try and revive his career in Europe in order to get another chance in the NHL. Mitchell is a career 50.2 percent on faceoffs in his career. He can also play on the wing and it will be interesting to see what his role becomes with the Swiss team. Mitchell can be an important part of the penalty kill. Hopefully, Mitchell is able to jumpstart his career overseas.
