The Pittsburgh Penguins announced today that they have traded goaltender Mike Condon to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Mike Condon Traded to Ottawa Senators
The Penguins claimed Condon on waivers from the Montreal Canadiens on October 10th. He played in just one game for the team, serving as Marc-Andre Fleury‘s backup while Matt Murray recovered from hand surgery. Condon stopped all seven shots he faced after relieving Fleury in the Penguins 5-1 loss to Nashville on October 22.
With Murray returning to the lineup, the Penguins found themselves with one too many goalies, and so Condon is off to the Senators, who didn’t have enough depth. With Andrew Hammond injured, and Craig Anderson missing some time with a family issue (though he is currently with the team), the Senators acquire an insurance policy. The move was made, in large part, to provide insurance if Anderson needs time away from the rink again.
Condon, 26, took over the reigns as the Montreal Canadiens starting goalie when Carey Price was injured last year. In 55 games he finished with a 21-25-3 record, and a 2.71 goals against average with a .903 save percentage.
The Senators have also sent Matt O’Connor down to their AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
