Mantha Placed on Injured Reserve
Forward Anthony Mantha also suffered a hand injury. He was hurt when he fought Colorado Avalanche defenseman Patrik Nemeth in Sunday’s game. Earlier, Nemeth had laid a hit on Red Wings centre Dylan Larkin.
“He was sticking up for Larkin in that case, who got his head run against the boards … I know this, he’d do it again. And I’m good with him doing it again. I want him to do it again. We want to make sure we’re sticking up for each other,” head coach Jeff Blashill told the team’s website.
Mantha has nine goals and five assists for 14 points in 27 games this season. He has also added 17 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers have been stellar, with a 55.8 percent Corsi-For, and a +12.2 relative Corsi. Last season, Mantha scored 24 goals and 48 points in 80 games. He put up a 51.8 percent Corsi-For, and a +4.1 relative Corsi.
Mantha has played in parts of four NHL seasons for the Red Wings. He has scored 52 goals and 49 assists for 101 points in 177 career NHL games. The Red Wings drafted Mantha in the first round, 20th overall, at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
