It was announced that Los Angeles Kings left wing Tanner Pearson was suspended by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Friday. He is suspended for the remainder of the pre-season, as well as the first two games of the NHL regular season. Pearson was punished for his hit on Edmonton Oilers defenceman Brandon Davidson on Sunday. The hit was categorized as an illegal hit to the head.

Los Angeles Kings Tanner Pearson Suspended
Pearson received a game misconduct on the play. It appeared that Pearson hit Davidson’s chin with his shoulder during the second period of Sunday’s game.
Pearson, 24, typically plays with Tyler Toffoli and Jeff Carter on “that 70s line.” The Kings drafted Pearson in the first round, 30th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft. He scored 15 goals and 21 assists for 36 points in 79 games for the Kings last season.
The 25-year-old Davidson scored four goals and seven assists for 11 points over 51 games last season with the Oilers. It was a breakout year for the second-year defenceman and he is expected to be a regular for the Oilers again this year.
Pearson will miss the Kings season opening game in San Jose against the Sharks on October 12th; as well as their home opener against the Philadelphia Flyers on October 14th. He is eligible to return when the Kings visit the Minnesota Wild on October 18th.
