The Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers played a stadium series this past year in Pittsburgh and now they will play another one in Philadelphia. The NHL announced tonight that the two rivals will play each other on February 23rd, 2019 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The Linc is the home of the National Football League’s Philadelphia Eagles.
A classic rivalry continues.

Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers Will Play Another Stadium Series Game in 2019
This will be the Penguins fifth outdoor game since the NHL started playing regular-season outdoor games in 2003. Pittsburgh is 2-2 in their four games with one of those wins coming against the Flyers in February. The Penguins won that game 4-2, played at Heinz Field.
The other win came in 2008 when they beat the Buffalo Sabres in a shootout in the Winter Classic up in Buffalo.
The two losses for the Penguins in their other outdoor games came when they lost the 2011 Winter Classic to the Washington Capitals 3-1 and then in 2014 when they lost to the Chicago Blackhawks. That game was part of the Stadium Series, along with a few others that season.
For Philadelphia, this will be their fourth outdoor game. They are 0-3 in their previous three. They played in the 2010 Winter Classic against the Boston Bruins as well as the 2012 Winter Classic against the New York Rangers. They hosted the 2012 game at Citizen’s Bank Park, which is the home of Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies.
There could be another outdoor game in the future for these two teams. Rumors have not gone away about a possibility of playing an outdoor game at Beaver Stadium. Beaver Stadium, home of the NCAA’s Penn State Nittany Lions, holds over 100,000 people. It is also close to being halfway between the cities of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
