Columbus Blue Jackets Place Zac Dalpe on Waivers

The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed depth centerman Zac Dalpe on waivers today. Dalpe was recently placed on IR, missing the last eight games for the Jackets.

If Dalpe clears waivers he will be sent to Cleveland to play with the AHL-affiliate of the Jackets, the Cleveland Monsters.

This comes as little surprise to anyone who has watched Columbus this season. Dalpe has been averaging just 7:42 of ice time per game. This is more than just one player, Jordan Schroeder, who has only played a single game this season.

In his 7:42 of ice time over his 10 games this season Dalpe did not register a single point. On top of that he has 13 penalty minutes, most on the Blue Jackets roster. He also has more shots than only three other forwards: Markus Hannikainen (11), Tyler Motte (13) and Lukas Sedlak (13). He has played in more games than both Motte and Sedlak.

While the point production hasn’t been there for Dalpe this season, the deeper numbers do point to him being slightly effective in a team sense. In his 10 games this season he is carrying a 54.07 Corsi-For percentage and a 0.50 Relative Corsi-For percentage.

Combine those two numbers with the 0.9193 PDO he has this season and it could point to this being more a case of bad luck rather than bad play. For reference, that is the lowest PDO on the Blue Jackets roster this season. Nonetheless, with Schroeder being activated off IR, Dalpe has found himself on waivers and will be elsewhere in a short period of time.

Including the 10 games this season for Columbus, Dalpe has played in 138 games in his NHL career. In that time he has played for Carolina, Vancouver, Buffalo, Minnesota and Columbus. He has scored 12 goals and added 12 assists to his career tally.
