The NHL’s new head of the department of player safety, George Parros has made his first suspension that costs an NHL player regular season games. The league announced today that they have suspended Washington Capital‘s forward Tom Wilson for the first four games of the 2017-18 NHL season. Wilson was suspended for boarding Sam Blais during a pre-season game against the St. Louis Blues last week.

Washington Capitals Tom Wilson Suspended Four Games
It is the second time in this pre-season alone that Wilson ran afoul of the Department of Player Safety. Earlier in the pre-season he was suspended for two pre-season games for an illegal hit against the Blues rookie forward Robert Thomas.

Wilson, 23, was a first round pick of the Capitals (16th Overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The fifth-year NHLer scored seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points in 82 games with the Capitals last season. He also added 133 penalty minutes. In 13 playoff games he scored three goals, and added 34 penalty minutes. The Capitals defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round, before falling to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
In 313 career NHL games, Wilson has recored 21 goals and 48 assists for 69 career points. He has also amassed 619 career penalty minutes. Spending his entire career in Washington, Wilson has played 41 career playoff games with three goals and two assists for five points. He also has 72 career penalty minutes in the playoffs.
