Malcolm Subban Claimed by Vegas Golden Knights; Patrik Nemeth Claimed by Colorado Avalanche

Malcolm Subban

With the start of the season just days away, the waiver wire for the NHL has been busy. Teams are trying to become cap-compliant and get down to the 23 man roster limit. The past few days have been slow, with everyone on waivers making it through and being sent to their respective AHL affiliates. There were two claims with Malcolm Subban claimed by the Vegas Golden Knights and Patrik Nemeth claimed by the Colorado Avalanche.

Malcolm Subban Claimed by Vegas Golden Knights

On October 2nd the Boston Bruins announced they were putting Malcolm Subban on waivers for purpose to be sent down to the Providence Bruins of the AHL. Subban has played in two NHL games with a .717 save percentage and a 5.81 goals allowed average.

The Golden Knights announced the next day that they were claiming Subban. Right now it looks like Marc-Andre Fluery is going to be their starter, but the backup position is still up for grabs. Calvin Pickard did not have a great pre-season, but Pickard would also have to go through waivers for the Golden Knights to send him down. It is possible that the Knights run with three goalies, but they themselves may be putting Subban or Pickard on waivers to play for their AHL’s Chicago Wolves.

Subban was drafted in 2012, 24th overall by the Boston Bruins. For the Providence Bruins last year he posted a .917 save percentage and a 2.41 goals against average.

Patrik Nemeth Claimed by Colorado

On October 2nd the Dallas Stars announced they were putting defenseman Patrik Nemeth on waivers for purpose to go to their AHL team, the Texas Stars. Nemeth has played for the Stars for four seasons playing 108 games with 14 points.

The next day the Colorado Avalanche announced they were claiming Nemeth. The Avalanche’s defence leaves a lot to be desired and it is possible that they are going to have him play in their regular six, or carry him as an extra defenseman in case of injuries.

Nemeth was drafted in 2010 and 41st overall by the Dallas Stars. Nemeth has played in 104 games with the Texas Stars of the AHL. While with the Texas Stars he scored five goals and 23 assists.
