Welcome back to another day of NHL Predictions. Each day, we will take a look at the games that are happening and give our predictions for each one. This is the late set of predictions here on Thursday, May 6th. Be sure to check out out the early predictions as well. In addition, we also offer a featured game of the day, which is a game that we think is must-watch TV. Today’s featured game is the Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Canadiens.
NHL Predictions: Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Canadiens
Pittsburgh Penguins vs Buffalo Sabres
Head-to-Head: Penguins 5 – 1 Sabres
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres are closing out the regular season against each in a two-game set. Pittsburgh is looking to stay healthy as they attempt to get the top seed in the East Division. Buffalo is playing for pride. Under new coach Don Granato, the Sabres are putting their best foot forward. The Sabres are a more feisty team than they were at the beginning of the season and young players like Casey Mittelstadt and Sam Reinhart are coming into their own. Michael Houser has also been turning heads. He is 2-0 in two starts this season. He might as well close out the season against the best team in the division. The Penguins are just looking to remain healthy and on track for the playoffs. With only a two-point cushion over Washington, these games are important for a team that needs home ice.
Prediction: Penguins win 4-1
Vancouver Canucks vs Edmonton Oilers
Head-to-Head: Oilers 5 – 2 Cancuks
This is the third of four straight games between the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers have been dominating this series. You can clearly see the Canucks are just running out of gas as they have to play an even more condensed schedule than they already did. Connor McDavid is dominating the Oilers and his seven points away from the 100 mark plateau in a 56-game season. McDavid already has 10 points against the Canucks this season. There is no reason why he can’t pick up those points in the next two games against Vancouver. With that being a team goal, there is a good chance he does it. Vancouver is just finishing out the season and they are playing with pride. Not to mention they make it hard for McDavid, but the Oilers continue to roll.
Prediction: Oilers win 5-1
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Canadiens
Head-to-Head: Maple Leafs 5 – 3 Canadiens
In the game of the night, the forever rivals in the Maple Leafs and Canadiens square off. Toronto will have revenge on their minds after blowing their lead against Montreal on Monday night. With an extra day of rest, look for the Maple Leafs to come out firing on a Canadiens team that will be playing those pesky Senators the night before. Ottawa always gives Montreal fits and with a chance to put the Flames in the rearview mirror, the Canadiens will give it all they got. Not to mention, the Canadiens will be flying in late into Toronto, so another advantage towards the Maple Leafs. But again it is a rivalry game, so Montreal will be up for it.
Auston Matthews is one goal shy of hitting the 40-goal mark. So look for him to try to get that out of the way early. The Maple Leafs want to start locking things down defensively with the playoffs right around the corner. Plus there is a good chance they will be playing Montreal in the opening round of the playoffs. It will be interesting to see when Frederik Andersen is ready to go for Toronto. On the other side of things, Cole Caufield continues to impress, what does he have in store for the next game against the Canadiens bitter rival. Look for Toronto to win this one.
Prediction: Maple Leafs win 4-2
