Los Angeles Kings Will Be Without Former Oiler to Start Camp

The Los Angeles Kings have an injury update, and they do appear concerned it is not short term. Corey Perry went down with an injury from something that happened on an on-ice exercise today. Elliotte Friedman is reporting the Kings are unsure of a timetable. However, he is making it seem like he will miss (at least) a chunk of the Kings training camp.

The Corey Perry Injury Has an Uncertain Timetable for Return to Lineup

Corey Perry’s incredibly unlucky recent stretch of his career is hard to believe.  He’s currently in the midst of 119 playoff games over the past six campaigns, including five Stanley Cup finals losses. It truly is quite an impressive span of playoff supremacy, mixed with a basically fluky inability to finish the ultimate prize. Of course, he does have one from his younger days in the league, led by all-time greats, in their own right.

Corey Perry has played 1392 regular season games over 20 seasons. 17 of those NHL campaigns, he has scored 12-or-more goals. Furthermore, he has a Maurice Richard Goal-Scoring Title Trophy and a Stanley Cup Championship to his name.

Corey Perry has proven, night-in, night-out, to be the ultimate playoff player throughout his career. Perry’s career 141 points have him 42nd on the NHL’s all-time playoff scoring list, seventh among active players. Who’s he sandwiched between among the active player list? Thought you’d never ask, Leon Draisaitl with 141 points (96 games), and Alex Ovechkin‘s 147 points (161 games). However, Patrick Kane and his 138 points (143 games) would be next below, if you go with a point-per-game timebreaker versus the total goals (why Perry is actually ranked above Draisaitl).

At the end of the day, Perry’s legacy is of that of a winner. The Kings felt that, even at age 40, he provides value in creating a winning environment in Southern California. Hopefully he is able to return before the regular season starts, to get up to game speed. Stay tuned for our update on the situation as it develops.
