Penguins Forward Reaches Another Milestone

The Pittsburgh Penguins captain has become the 10th player in NHL history to hit an incredible scoring milestone. As if two Hart awards (league MVP), three Stanley Cup championships, and even a gold medal-winning goal in the Olympics were not enough, Sidney Crosby has recorded his 1,600th career point.

Crosby’s Latest Milestone

Crosby is now just the 10th player in NHL history to reach this milestone. He’s also just the sixth player to achieve it with one franchise. Furthermore, recording 1,600 points in 1,277 games is the fifth-fewest to reach the mark.

The captain joins an elite list. Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Gordie Howe, Marcel Dionne, Steve Yzerman, Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr, Ron Francis, and Joe Sakic precede Crosby in the exclusive club. Jagr, who is set to retire from professional hockey at the end of the season, was the latest to join the club before Crosby.

Whose Next?

Crosby is currently tenth on the all-time points list. The next player for Crosby to pass on the list is Sakic, who recorded 1,641 points in his career.

Realisitically, Crosby could pass Jagr (1,921) for second on the list. Doing so would only leave the Great One ahead of Crosby. With 2,857 points, it is unlikely anyone will ever pass Wayne Gretzky. However, if there anyone who could do it, it would be Sidney Crosby.

Hall of Fame Resume Continues to be Updated

This is just the latest milestone for Crosby’s Hall of Fame application. Only a few more questions remain regarding Crosby and the Hall of Fame. What other milestones will he accomplish and when will he be inducted? Crosby cemented himself as a lock for hockey immortality long ago. It will happen, but until then, Crosby continues to amaze on the ice.

Sid, what will you give us next?
