Seattle Kraken Give Goaltender Contract Extension

The Seattle Kraken and general manager Ron Francis have news to announce today. They have agreed to a contract extension with goaltender Joey Daccord. Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the deal is worth an average annual value of $5 million over the next five seasons. D’Accord was already under contract for 2024-25, so the deal kicks in after the season. Furthermore, it seems him signed until the conclusion of the 2029-30 campaign.

Joey DAccord’s Career Overview After Signing Contract Extension with Kraken

Joey D’Accord was originally an Ottawa Senators draft pick all the way back in 2015. He appeared briefly with Ottawa for a total of nine games. In July of 2021, he was selected in the Kraken’s NHL expansion draft from Ottawa. Moreover, last season was the first time in his career he played a full NHL season. Of his 69 career NHL games, 50 were from 2023-24 with the Kraken. Last year, he boasted a 19-18-11 record with a 2.46 goals-against-average and a stellar .916 save percentage. Even though the club in front of him might have struggled a bit, by those numbers, D’Accord certainty performed well. Therefore, this is Francis’ way of rewarding the player accordingly.

What Does This Mean for the Seattle Kraken?

The Seattle Kraken are trying to move past the growing pain, in the you know what, that was 2023-24. After a successful second season of their franchise, in 2022-23, where they qualified for the second round of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, last year they experienced some negative regression in their team’s development. However, moves such as yesterday’s announcement of naming Jordan Eberle captain are a sign of optimism. Also, hopeful of player’s development into 2024-25, they are looking for playoff contention this season. Philipp Grubauer serves as the tandem-mate to D’Accord, so they should have the blueprint for a successful team.
