Toronto Maple Leafs winger, Nicholas Robertson has signed an extension with the team. His new contract is a one-year deal at $875K. The upcoming 2024-25 season will be the fifth campaign for Robertson as a Leaf.

Robertson Signs Extension with the Maple Leafs
Robertson is coming off his best season yet with the Maple Leafs. Before last season, he never played more than 15 NHL games in a season. However, he’s coming off a season playing a total of 56 regular-season games. In the process, he scored 14 goals and 27 points while averaging just over 11 minutes of ice time. Those numbers put Robertson on pace for a 20-goal season and nearly 40 points if he played a full 82-game season. All those numbers listed are career highs for the 22-year-old, and it is expected that his production will improve given his age and room for growth.
However, it was challenging for Robertson to get going in the playoffs against the Boston Bruins. His size makes it difficult for him to dominate the ice in a physical setting, unlike his brother Jason. Nick is 5-foot-9 and 178 pounds, an easy frame to knock down, and just a few seasons ago he paid the price dealing with a big shoulder injury as a result of a hit.
Cheap Scoring Option
Leaf fans know that this Robertson extension could mean good things when you look at his abilities. Robertson is known for his powerful shot and incredible work ethic. Much of the time, the California native is rushing up and down the ice recovering pucks with his explosive speed. He’s not afraid to mix it up in the corner despite his size. He can also be a weapon on the second power play unit with that aforementioned shot of his.
The only thing holding him back is limited ice time because of all the talent held on the Leafs roster. With this Robertson extension, and now able to play for a new head coach, maybe he can find his spot in the lineup as a regular third-liner with the upside to become a second-line winger.
