Back with part eight of this series of best Philadelphia Flyers by jersey numbers. Today we get into a range of numbers that are not highly decorated with organizational glory from any players. However, some of the Flyers’ young stars are included in this section, as well as a hall of famer. The hall of famer, however, major body of work was not completed as member of the Flyers. This portion of our list also includes a few players who were the only ones to wear a certain number, so let’s not waste any more time, and dive right in.
The Philadelphia Flyers Best by Respective Jersey Numbers 71 through 80 Beginning with Tyson Foerster
Foerster broke out just last season with the Flyers, cementing himself into the lineup. Previously, Forester found himself going back and forth from the minors to the show. Last season, Forester appeared in 77 games, tallying 33 points in those games (20 goals, 13 assists). Forester has high upside and potential, and the Flyers look to him to fill the role as a true top-six forward this season.
72. Rob Zepp
Spending just one season with Philadelphia, Zepp appeared in 10 games between the posts, starting in nine. He recorded five wins, posting an .888 save percentage and a 2.89 goals-against-average. Zepp departed from the Flyers and went into retirement after the 2014-15 season.
73. Elliot Desnoyers
Appearing in just four games as a Flyer, Desnoyers gets his name on the list being the lone player to wear number 73. He posted zero points in those games and was minus two.
74. Owen Tippett
Tippett was one of the Flyers’ top guys last season, and he made a name for himself around the league. From his speed to his rocket of a shot, he is expected to be a big piece for the Flyers going forward. Last season, Tippett had his best season in the NHL, playing in 78 games and putting up 53 points (28 goals, 25 assists). His goal, assist, and point total were all career-highs.
75. Hal Gill
Another player who was the lone person to wear a certain number. However, he makes the list as best Philadelphia Flyers to wear jersey numbers in the 70s. Gill played just six games with the club, not producing any points.
76. Chris VandeVelde
Once again, VandeVelde is the only player to wear number 76. Unlike Gill, he actually spent a decent amount of time with the club and produced a bit. Over four seasons in Philly, VandeVelde played in 250 games and racked up 45 points (17 goals, 28 assists). This production wasn’t awful for a bottom-six forward, and unless someone else wears 76 and outperforms VandeVelde, he will stay on this list for years to come.
This Lists Hall of Famer for the Philadelphia Flyers Jersey Numbers and 77 Paul Coffey
It was a tough choice between Coffey and Adam Oates for this spot on the list. Both joined the Flyers for a brief stint at the end of their Hall-of-Fame careers. Coffey wins the battle between the two for this spot on the list with a longer, more impactful tenure with the orange and black. Coffey was sent over to the Flyers during the 96-97 season and spent the 97-98 season with them as well. Over those two seasons, he appeared in 94 games putting up 55 points as a defenceman (eight goals, 47 assists). Coffey was also a key piece to the Flyers Stanley Cup run in ’97, where they fell short to the Detroit Red Wings.
78. Pierre-Édourd Bellemare
Bellemare made his NHL debut with the Flyers and spent three seasons with them before being selected by Vegas in the expansion draft. Bellemare was a great bottom-six forward for the Flyers and has been great in that role on every team he has been on since. Many fans believe Bellemare could’ve been a bigger producer for the team if he hadn’t been locked to the third line.
79. Carter Hart
Hart is the only player to wear 79, but probably would’ve seen his name on this list anyways. Hart was a solid goalie for the Flyers and showed glimpses of being a top goalie in the NHL. However, Hart ran into well-documented off-ice legal issues which led the Flyers to release him.
