Best Calgary Flames By Jersey Number: #51- 60

Best Calgary Flames

We’ve made it through 50 numbers of the Best Calgary Flames of all time based on the jersey number they wore for the franchise. We’ve seen franchise greats, All-Stars, and Hall of Famers. Let’s continue our series with the next jersey numbers starting with number 51.

Best Calgary Flames by Jersey Number: 51- 60

#51 – Dave Gagner (Centre)

Gagner was known for his offence, after reaching the 40-goal mark four times as a member of the Minnesota North Stars. His time in Calgary was short but productive. Gagner spent just one season as a member of the Calgary Flames. During the 1996-1997 season, Gagner would score 27 goals and 60 points.

Honourable Mention – Troy Stecher (Defenceman)

Stecher played just 20 games in Calgary at the end of the 2022-2023 season. He was productive during that time as a bottom-pairing defenceman who scored three goals and seven points in 20 games, matching his season point total prior to being traded.

#52 –MacKenzie Weegar (Defenceman)

Since joining the Flames as part of a blockbuster deal in 2022 Weegar has been a big part of Calgary’s blueline. He’s played in all but one possible game in his first two seasons with the Flames, averaging 22 minutes a game. Last season Weegar took an even bigger step, scoring 20 goals and 52 points. By the end of the season, he was promoted to quarterbacking the Flames first power play unit and will be relied on heavily this upcoming season.

Honourable Mention – Brandon Bollig (Left Wing)

Bollig is the only other player than Weegar to wear number 52 in Calgary. He came to Calgary after winning a cup with Chicago but was largely ineffective for the Flames. In 116 games over two seasons, Bollig recorded just nine points.

 #53 –Derek Morris (Defenceman)

Drafted in the first round by Calgary in the 1996 entry draft, Morris was a solid contributor during his five seasons with the Flames. His rookie campaign in Calgary saw him make the NHL All-Rookie Team after recording 29 points and playing in all 82 games. He averaged over 22 minutes a game while with the Flames, and Morris reached the 30-point mark three times. He finished his time in Calgary with 343 total games played and 163 points.

Honourable Mention – Buddy Robinson (Right Wing)

Robinson played a total of just nine games over two seasons in Calgary, recording one goal. The big winger was never able to crack the Flame regular lineup.

#54 – David Jones (Right Wing)

Jones played parts of three seasons in Calgary and was generally effective for his role. He missed significant time battling injuries, never playing more than 67 games in a season. He finished his time in Calgary with 62 points in 174 games, including 32 goals.

Honourable Mention – Rasmus Andersson (Defenceman)

Andersson has had a lot more success as a Flame than David Jones, but since he only wore the number 54 before he was a regular NHLer we’re placing him here. He’s the only other player to have worn the jersey, but Flames fans know him best for the jersey number 4.

#55 – Noah Hanifin (Defenceman)

Hanifin played parts of six seasons in Calgary before being traded to Vegas at this past deadline. During his time in Calgary, the smooth-skating defenceman was a reliable contributor. Playing in the top four, Hanifin was relied on to play plenty of minutes every night. He was consistent and dependable, and although the offensive side of his game never flourished the way many had hoped, he developed into a solid defenceman. His best offensive season in Calgary came in the 2021-2022 season when he scored 10 goals and 38 points.

Honourable Mention – Adam Pardy (Defenceman)

Pardy played three seasons in Calgary. He was a bottom pairing defenceman who didn’t offer much offensively but served his role reasonably well.

#56 – Ryan Lomberg (Left Wing)

The feisty winger played just 11 games for the Calgary Flames from 2017-2019, but fans remember him well. He brought energy and physicality every time he was on the ice. These traits are what caught the eye of the Florida Panthers, where Lomberg would go on to win a Stanley Cup. He’s now re-signed with the Calgary Flames and fans are excited to have him back for the 2024-2025 season.

Honourable Mention – Erik Gustafsson (Defenceman)

Gustafsson was acquired by the Flames ahead of the 2019-20 playoffs in hopes of adding offence and improving their power play. He wasn’t able to make a major difference during his time in Calgary, playing in seven regular season games and recording three assists, as well as four assists over 10 playoff games.

#57 – Lance Bouma (Centre)

Bouma was a hard-nosed forward known for throwing hits and blocking shots. He was part of the Flames franchise for six seasons. His best campaign came in 2014-15, when he scored 16 goals and 34 points, while also recording 264 hits and 82 blocks.

Honourable Mention – Nick DeSimone (Defenceman)

DeSimone has been primarily an AHL player over his four-year NHL career. His best professional season came last season when he played 23 games for the Calgary Flames before being claimed off waivers by New Jersey.

#58 – Dave Moss (Left Wing)

Moss was a member of the Calgary Flames for 317 games over six seasons. He was primarily a depth forward, but he did have one 20-goal season in 2008-09 while with the Flames. He was a solid NHLer over his nine years in the league.

Honourable Mention – Oliver Kylington (Defenceman)

Kylington was a second-round draft pick of the Calgary Flames in 2015. He developed in the AHL while getting some opportunities with the Flames before his breakout campaign in 2021-2022. During that season Kylington played in 73 games, recording 34 points. He would end up missing the entirety of the 2022-2023 season battling mental health before a triumph return to Calgary’s lineup in the second half of the 2023-2024 season. His success with the Flames would be cut short, as following the 2024 season he elected to test free agency and eventually signed with Colorado.

#59 – Max Reinhart (Centre)

One of three Reinhart brothers to make the NHL, Max was the oldest. He was drafted in the third round by the Flames but would only suit up for 23 games over three seasons. He finished his NHL career with just one goal and four assists.

Honourable Mention – David Van Der Gulik (Right Wing)

Six total games played and two assists for the Flames in one season. Most fans likely won’t remember the seventh-round pick, but he’s one of just two players to wear number 59 for the franchise.

#60 – Markus Granlund (Centre)

Granlund was a second-round selection of the Flames and played parts of three seasons in Calgary. His best season came in 2014-15 when he scored 18 points in 48 games. He would go on to play the best hockey of his career with the Vancouver Canucks.

Honourable Mention – Mikael Backlund (Centre)

The now Flames captain only wore the number 60 before becoming a full-time NHLer. Since he’s the only other player to Granlund to wear the number he gets an honorary spot, but Flames fans know Backlund for the number 11 he wears today.
