Anaheim Ducks and Seattle Kraken Agree to a Trade

Brian Dumoulin Trade

The Seattle Kraken have traded Brian Dumoulin to the Anaheim Ducks for a 2026 fourth-round draft pick. Dumoulin has one year left on his current contract.

Ducks Acquire Dumoulin

Dumoulin scored six goals and 16 points in 80 games with the Kraken last year. The defenceman averaged the lowest time on ice in his career since the 2014-15 season.

Time In Pittsburgh And Seattle

Dumoulin, aside from his one season with the Kraken, spent his entire career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Doumulin was part of the Penguins winning back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017.

While a reliable defenceman for the Penguins, Dumoulin dealt with various injuries that shortened a few of his seasons.

The Kraken signed Dumoulin to a two-year contract prior to last season. With players like Vince Dunn and the newly-signed Brandon Montour, Dumoulin did not have a place on the Duck roster.

Role With The Ducks

The Ducks are in the middle of a rebuild. Dumoulin will provide the Ducks with a reliable defenceman and someone who has experience playing in big games.

When healthy, Dumoulin has a reputation for being a defenceman who can step up when needed. This can be attractive not only for the Ducks, but for possible buyers at the 2025 Trade Deadline.

The Ducks brought in Adam Henrique in 2017 for his experience. As the Ducks transitioned from a contender to a rebuilder, they traded him to the Edmonton Oilers at the trade deadline. Similar could happen with Dumoulin. The Ducks only gave up a fourth-round pick for him, but if Dumoulin bounces back next season, he could generate a decent return for the Ducks in a trade.

The Big Picture

The Brian Dumoulin trade was a way for the Kraken to make room on their roster. For the Ducks, they gained a veteran with experience and a possible trade chip for the future.

Dumoulin is a name to watch this season for any team who may need a defenceman at the trade deadline.
