As one of the few remaining players from the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Corey Perry signed a new one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers. The deal will carry an AAV of $1.4 million.

Corey Perry Signs New Contract
Corey Perry earned another contract and is hanging around to search for another chance to make an impact. The 2003 first-round selection of the Anaheim Ducks has travelled around the league quite a bit. For the first part of his career he was an unmovable piece for the Ducks. And his trophy case over the years is impressive. A Hart Memorial Trophy and Rocket Richard Trophy winner, a Stanley Cup Champion, and a multiple time All-Star are some of his biggest accolades. A veteran of almost two decades of NHL hockey, Perry has also interestingly found himself playing in the Stanley Cup Finals five times, even though the majority have ended in losses.
Perry has also not been absent from some controversy. During the 2023 offseason, the Tampa Bay Lightning traded him to the Chicago Blackhawks. Seen more as a mentor for Chicago’s younger players like Connor Bedard, the Blackhawks ultimately terminated his contract. While the specific reason is still uncertain, various speculations surrounded this departure. Corey Perry then fairly quickly found himself signing another contract as a free agent with the Edmonton Oilers.
Another Year in the League
Nevertheless, Perry has been an effective player over his career. He has a big body that he can use to power his way to the net and isn’t afraid to stand in front for tips and rebounds. With 429 goals and 476 assists over his career, Perry has shown he can be an effective point producer. But playing the agitator role is also one of his biggest attributes. That combined with an ability to still chip in some in a depth role allows him to continue to find an NHL place at the age of 39.
This is what Perry brings to the team. Not to mention his many years of experience he can contribute. Hockey is a tough sport so seeing seasoned players like Corey Perry earn another contract to stick around is certainly an impressive feat.
