Jordan Martinook has re-signed a new contract extension with the Carolina Hurricanes. The deal will run for three years and carry an AAV of $3.05 million.

Jordan Martinook Signed to New Deal
Jordan Martinook has been the heartbeat of the Carolina Hurricanes for many years now. A prototypical bottom-six forward who plays with a lot of energy and is strong on the forecheck. But Martinook can also chip in a little offensively in the bottom six. Originally a 2012 second-round draft pick of the Arizona Coyotes (now Utah), Martinook came to Carolina via trade in 2018 and has played the rest of his career in North Carolina.
While not a top point producer necessarily, Martinook’s career high in goals came this past season when he scored 14 while his career high in points came the previous year with 34. However, his most notable offensive outburst came in round two of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He had four consecutive multi-point games after being blanked in the first round. A true heart and soul guy, he will give the team everything he has and is a positive locker room presence. Playing on a line most of the time with Jordan Staal, they were consistently an analytic dream when it comes to driving play and maintaining possession.
What This Means
As many teams like the Hurricanes have found, finding valuable players in the bottom-six that can play fast and a “playoff-style” game is important. This is what the Canes know they have in Martinook. He can kill penalties and play physical. While he may not be a true top-line forward, he can slide up the lines for a short time if needed. In addition, he has a seemingly never-ending motor and is very effective in maintaining possession and establishing a heavy forecheck.
For Martinook, he should be happy that the free agency uncertainty has ended quickly and painlessly. At 31-years-old he is not the oldest player in the league but is certainly a veteran at this point. Therefore, keeping it going is something that Martinook should be excited about. He earned it through his positive attitude, hard work, and ability to chip in in a depth role.
