Boston Bruins Sign Depth Forward to Deal

Tampa Bay Lightning Trade Deadline: Under-the-Radar Forwards Part Two (Max Jones)

The Boston Bruins have made the Max Jones contract official. This deal is for two years and $2 million total. The average cap hit is $1 million and the deal runs to the end of the 2025-26 season.

Bruins Sign Max Jones Contract

Jones was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Jones spent some time in the Ontario Hockey League, where an increased role allowed Jones to showcase his offensive capabilities. After his team was eliminated from the playoffs, Jones was re-assigned to the Ducks American Hockey League affiliate, the San Diego Gulls.

The Gulls were in the middle of their playoff run when Jones joined them. In nine games, Jones recorded a goal and an assist.

Debut, Development, and Injury

Jones made his NHL debut in January 0f 2019. Jones played in 30 games with the Ducks. He was sent back to the Gulls for a playoff run. Jones played in eight games, but an injury kept him out of the lineup.

Jones played his first full NHL season in 2020-21. He registered 11 points in 46 games. He made the team again out of training camp on 2021-22. However, a torn pectoral muscle limited him to just two games.

In the 2022-23 season, Jones played in 69 games. Jones saw an increased role with the team. He set a career-high with 19 points.

Jones was a big part of the Ducks plan for the 2023-24 season. However, injuries again plagued Jones again. He missed thirty games with various injuries.

Jones’s Talent Shows Promise If He Can Stay Healthy

Despite Jones’s injury history, there is still promise for his NHL career. He is a strong forechecker who can move the puck well. Any team in the league would love a player like that.

Jones will need to make the most of his opportunities this season to show he is deserving of a role with an NHL team moving forward.
