8-Year NHL Vet Signs 3-Year Contract With New York Rangers

An NHL veteran with eight-years of NHL experience, and 12 years of professional hockey experience overall, Sam Carrick lands a contract with the New York Rangers. The deal is a three-year contract, worth a total value of $3 million. This is a solid move by General Manager Chris Drury and adding depth to the forward group. Carrick is a very responsible player to play against.

NHL Veteran Forward Sam Carrick Signs a Nice Three-Year Contract with the New York Rangers

Carrick is 32 years old and a native of the Toronto-area. Looking over Carrick’s career statistics, nothing really stands out. In 240 career games, he has 53 points, and 316 penalty minutes. Moreover, his career-best NHL season was decent with 11 goals in 64 games. However, and at the AHL as well, he has played well when he has made it to the playoffs. He suited up for just ten Oiler playoff games in 2024, but was an effective fourth-liner when he did get into the lineup. That is what the Rangers are hoping for from him.

The New York Rangers Will Have a Busy Offseason Fine Tooling

The Rangers are always looking to bolster their veteran presence in their bottom-six. Especially if there is any chance they can be playoff performers. And in Carrick’s case, even if it is grit and defence he is providing. And really, which teams aren’t looking for those type of players? Look at the Panthers stocking up with the likes of Kyle Okposo or Vladimir Tarasenko. These are the types of moves, that aren’t sexy, but win you championships. Why do you think the Edmonton Oilers acquired Carrick from the Anaheim Ducks at the 2024 NHL trade deadline. Well, giving Sam Carrick this contract and that he can bolster their playoff depth, is what GM Drury is banking on, even more so where he gave Carrick the three year term. Surely, a welcomed, but well-deserved, bonus to the veteran’s playing career.
