Fans of the Anaheim Ducks will be delighted to hear the news that their club has tied down their young star Trevor Zegras.
The restricted free agent has been awarded a bumper new contract, with the deal worth $5.75 million over three years.
Trevor Zegras Re-Signs with the Anaheim Ducks
Trevor Zegras, who was the ninth overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, has made a huge impact in California. It goes without saying that Ducks fans will be delighted to see he has committed his future to the club.
Initially assigned to the San Diego Gulls of the AHL, Zegras made his NHL debut in February 2021.
Since then he has gone on to become a key part of Anaheim’s fledgling offence. The American is responsible for a more-than-respectable 90 points in 180 games, which includes 49 goals.
The forward has also received league-wide recognition for his performances. In his first full season with the Ducks, the 22-year-old made the All-Rookie Team and was the Calder Trophy runner-up.
What This Means for the Ducks
The Ducks are nurturing a talented young core, with a view to reaching the playoffs and contending for the Stanley Cup. Notably, Trevor Zegras’ numbers are climbing each season and his personality off the ice is one of the most memorable in the league.
Therefore, it was essential for Anaheim to make sure they locked the former Boston University Terrier down. By doing so, they have ensured his skills and assets are kept close. This will allow his young career to flourish on a personal level.
In turn, this will also have a tremendous effect on those around him. Morale is always boosted in a locker room when a top player re-signs, but there is more to it than that. Zegras’ outstanding play will inevitably boost the quality of those around him, propelling the Ducks’ project further.
