What would a winning Flyers season mean to the city of Philadelphia? More than people think. The loyal fans of all Philadelphia sports love winning teams, but for the Flyers to break through and discover a winning season would mean the world to them.
What a Winning Flyers Season Would Mean for Philadelphia
We all know about the Phillies and the Eagles recent success. The Eagles recently had a stellar season going 14-3 and made it all the way to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately losing in the end, but not without an exciting game. The Eagles lost 38-35 in one of the most entertaining Super Bowls there has been. Even though they lost their last game of the season, the city of Philadelphia was buzzing.
The Phillies baseball season last year was also a success. They went 87-75 and secured the last Wild Card spot. Eventually doing what nobody thought they could – winning their way to the World Series on a historic run. Moments from that playoff run will forever be remembered. No moment more than in Game 3 of the NLDS when Rhys Hoskins hit a 3-run home run in the third inning to put the Phillies up 4-0. Immediately after he hit the ball, he spiked his bat down with all the force in the world and raised his hands in the air while the Philly fans went berserk. A moment no one in Philadelphia sports will ever forget – including me.
How the Flyers Would Impact the City
So how do the Flyers fit into all of this? The fans have seen winning seasons, they’ve seen championship games, they’ve even felt being world champs of a sport. This being said, it’s been nearly 50 years of absence from winning the Stanley Cup for the Flyers. Now that being said, we don’t have to be unreasonable and say only winning a Stanley Cup will make the fans happy – that isn’t true. A competitive and winning season will do just fine.
Flyers fans are some of the best in the world. Despite their substantial struggles in the last few seasons, they still brought in over 17,000 fans per game on average. Philly loves its Flyers! Philly fans have been known to have a reputation as the most loyal, obnoxious fans in all of the country. Both may be true, but it’s only the loyalty factor that players care about. The fans live and die all Philly sports, and it’s been a while since they’ve seen some really good hockey. The Flyers have a chance to surprise fans with a campaign that goes better than expected. The fans will continue to show their support, the Flyers just have to compete every night.
Philly and the Fans
Some of the biggest stars in all of Philly sports have been outspoken on how they love to play in Philadelphia. Bryce Harper says he hopes to retire as a Phillie because he loves it so much. Let’s not forget about Trae Turner. Turner, who struggled immensely for over half the baseball season, got a standing ovation during a home game. The only reason he got this ovation was for the fans to show they are on his side, and they trust him, not because he was playing well. From that moment on, Turner was a completely different player and has been on an absolute tear. The fans want to get the best out of their players, and they will love them to a fault.
With some new faces on the Flyers this year it will all be relatively new, but that doesn’t change anything. The fans love hockey and want to see the Flyers succeed. The city has been roused for some time now; they are begging to see the Flyers succeed. If the Flyers can get things together and go on a special run, the entire city of Philadelphia will be exultant for years to come.
