Veteran Defenceman Luke Schenn Signs Contract

The rugged Luke Schenn has been signed by the Nashville Predators. He signs a contract for the next three years with an AAV of $2.75. The decision to sign the defenceman was made to help bring experience to the club’s blueline. For Schenn in 2022-23, he showed that he was an effective playoff presence and role player. He suited up in all 11 games on the Toronto Maple Leafs backend during their second-round appearance.

The Saskatoon product has played 933 career NHL games spanning 15 seasons. His offensive production has never been overly impressive, recording 22 points in 2022-23. Interestingly enough, this is tied with his career-high achieved in each of the 2010-11 and 2011-12 campaigns. That was during his previous tenure as a member of the Maple Leafs. Last season, he split his time with the Vancouver Canucks and the Maple Leafs. His ice time dipped with the Maples Leafs, from 17:11 with Vancouver to 13:18.

The Luke Schenn contract is good for the new club. When it comes down to it, Luke Schenn is still the ultimate playoff performer. That was why Kyle Dubas picked him up at the trade deadline. He was one of the toughest Maple Leafs against the Florida Panthers in their 2023 NHL playoff second-round series. Moreover, perhaps a surprise to some, Luke Schenn led the NHL regular season in hits in 2022-23. His 318 was six ahead of perennial hitman, Florida Panther Radko Gudas. Furthermore, Luke Schenn is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion, as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021. Before the 2020 playoffs, Schenn had only appeared in 12 career playoff games. Since that time, he has laced them up for 30 Stanley Cup playoff games. That said, with Schenn, you will get your money’s worth. He will show up for playoff time, and throw his weight around the rest of the time too.
