Jonathan Quick Signs New Deal
The 37-year-old veteran goalie is coming off of a season that saw him split time between the Los Angeles Kings and Vegas Golden Knights. After being acquired by Vegas, Quick played in 10 games, posting a 3.13 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage. However, Quick did not play in any of Vegas’s postseason games.
Jonathan Quick was a former third-round pick in 2005. After two years at the University of Massachusetts, he made his NHL debut in 2007. He quickly became a standout goalie with the Kings and went on to play parts in 16 seasons in LA. Quick’s tenure saw him lead the franchise to its first Stanley Cup in 2012, where he was awarded the Conn Smythe trophy. He then went on to win another championship two years later in 2014. Across 16 seasons in LA, he posted a career 2.46 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage.
What This Means for the Future
Jonathan Quick’s days of being a number one goalie are seemingly behind him. However, Quick will look to bounce back from a subpar 2022-23 season and provide a spark as a veteran backup. There are certainly questions about his age which is indicative of this short-term deal. Quick arrived in Vegas to provide goalie depth for a cup-contending team, a role that should be similar with the Rangers. This past year was only Quick’s second season ever posting a goals-against average above a 2.9. Despite being 37 years old, with a lighter workload in [insert team] there is a possibility that a fresher Jonathan Quick can get back to being a quality goaltender in the NHL.
