Calgary Flames Agree Extension with Newly Acquired Sharangovich

Newly acquired forward Yegor Sharangovich has signed a contract with the Calgary Flames. Sharangovich has signed a two-year extension with an AAV of $3.1 million per season. The newcomer is happy to be in his new home.

Sharangovich Signs New Deal with Flames

Yegor Sharangovich was recently acquired in a trade, along with a 2023 third-round pick from New Jersey, in exchange for forward Tyler Toffoli. The 25-year-old forward has played the last three seasons in New Jersey. His role diminished in 2022-23 from the top six scorers to the third liner and penalty killer. In his 205 career games, he has scored 106 points and had a career-high 24 goals and 46 points in 2021-22.

Sharangovich was a pending RFA who cashes in following the trade from New Jersey. With Calgary’s ongoing roster turnover, Sharangovich should see more minutes and be given more opportunities to score goals. He was once a promising young player in the Devils organization and is a prime bounce-back candidate in Calgary. The hope for the Flames is he can provide solid secondary goalscoring. His calling card is his shot, highlighted by his 53 career goals. With Calgary shipping out a 34-goal scorer in Toffoli, the is hope that Sharangovich can find his scoring touch again to fill some of the void. In addition to his scoring potential, he has proven to be a capable penalty killer. He played a part in a Devils unit that was the fourth-ranked penalty kill in the NHL last season.

This Yegor Sharangovich contract is a win-win for both sides. Sharangovich gets a nice raise from his previous contract that paid him $2 million per season, as well as an opportunity to play higher up in the lineup. As for Calgary, they get a young, goalscoring forward with quality NHL experience who still has the chance to develop into a quality top-six winger.
