In what has become a very busy day for the Boston Bruins, announcing the acquisition of Tyler Bertuzzi from Detroit earlier this morning and the signing of David Pastrnak shortly after, injury updates deliver less than exciting news. Taylor Hall‘s injury stemming from an unknown game is more severe than originally thought. Thus landing him on the Long-Term Injured Reserve.
Taylor Hall Injured and to Miss Time
Boston placing Hall on LITR has once again reminded NHL fans of the movement’s involvement in creating a cap. This give the Bruins $6 million dollars from Boston’s cap hit. It places them in cap-compliant status after acquiring half of Bertuzzi’s $4.75 dollar contract in the trade. While Hall’s absence on its own would disrupt some of Boston’s offence dynamic by removing a huge part of Boston’s transitional attack and play-making on the third line. Bertuzzi provides these attributes on a similarly strong level.

What Taylor Hall Being Injured Means
The dynamic offence systems in place through Jim Montgomery may resurrect the finishing struggles of Bertuzzi this season. Hall’s return would place Boston out of cap compliance; however, as this injury appears to likely keep him out until the postseason, in which the salary cap is effectively turned off, would not affect the Bruins at any point this season.
Boston has made its push into the table to be a contender for the Stanley Cup. The teams in the Eastern Conference are raising the stakes in an arms race of sorts. The New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and other clubs are going all-in. Taylor Hall being injured gives the Bruins some flexibility, but they will miss him.
