The Wild have locked up one of their key core pieces for the future in Boldy. Boldy is just 21 years old and was drafted 12th overall by Minnesota in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The team had high expectations for him and so far, he has not disappointed the team. After finishing at Boston College in 2020-21, Boldy played 14 games with the Iowa Wild where he put up six goals and 12 assists for 18 points in just 14 games. Not bad for a 19-year-old.
In 2021-22 he played 10 games with Iowa. He had four goals and six assists for 10 points. However, it was what he did in the NHL last season that really had people impressed. Boldy came in an immediately made an impact with the team. He finished the year with 15 goals and 24 assists for 39 points in 47 games. But it was how quickly he became a staple of the top six that was so impressive.
Currently, he is at 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points in 41 games played this season. Not quite the numbers he put up last year, but still solid for a player his age.
Minnesota Looking for Value
It is clear that Minnesota sees Boldy as a key piece of this team going forward. If Boldy can take one more step and blossom into a true top-line centre, this contact will hold immense value for Minnesota. However, if he can even stay as a solid second-line player who puts up 65ish points, that will also be good value.
Minnesota needs Boldy to be a key piece as they are in the middle of a cap crunch from past buyouts. Luckily, Boldy seems like the exact type of player you want to bet on to provide value. For Boldy, he gets long-term security in a place he clearly loves to play. All around, this seems like a good deal for everyone.
