Pierre-Luc Dubois Signs New Contract
Over his five-year NHL career, Dubois has played for the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Winnipeg Jets. He has put up 102 goals and 137 assists for 239 career points in 361 career games. He was originally drafted in the first round, third overall of the 2016 NHL draft by the Blue Jackets. Dubois was traded to the Jets in exchange for Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic during the 2020-2021 season. Since then he is been solid offensively for the Jets.
This past season he scored 28 goals and recorded 60 points, just one point shy of his career-high points. But Dubois did pass his previous goal record of 27. The young forward was tenth in the league for the most power-play goals scored. Though he did not win, he was in the running for the Calder Memorial Trophy his rookie year.
What He Brings to the Table
Dubois is versatile for many reasons, but one of those is his ability to play center, as well as the wing. He is a power forward that drives through the zone. Additionally, he is great on the forecheck and can create something out of nothing. Dubois also thrives under pressure which makes him appealing for those big moments and potential playoff runs. In the 2021-2022 season, he scored six game-winning goals. At six-foot-two-inches, he has learned how to use his size to lay hits and use his body to elevate his game. This past season he tallied 112 hits.
Not only is he great offensively, but he is also defensively sound. He stays all over his opponents and takes away shooting and passing lanes. He can be put in any situation and be any type of player you need which makes him extremely valuable to his team and linemates.
Rumours continue to swirl that Dubois wants out of Winnipeg and his agent has confirmed that he would like to play for the Montreal Canadiens in the future.
