Another day, another deal. The Montreal Canadiens have signed first-round pick, Filip Mešár to an entry-level contract. He will be under contract for three years. The term will be less than $1 million per year. The Canadiens had a very productive first round of the 2022 Draft. Juraj Slafkovsky was the first overall pick, infusing the forward core with much-needed youth. Now Mešár, a forward himself, gives the Canadiens another boost on offence. This adds to an offence that has Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Jonathan Drouin, and Christian Dvorak. The Canadiens look to have a very bright future ahead of them.

Filip Mesar Signs Entry-Level Contract
This also comes after trading for Evegnii Dadonov and Kirby Dach. Mešár may need some seasoning, but he has the potential to make an impact very soon. This past year, in Slovakia’s Extraliga, he played 37 games with the Poprad HK. In those games, he scored eight goals and had eight assists for 16 points. He also scored three goals and had one assist for four points in six playoff games. Those numbers aren’t mind-blowing, but he is only 18 years old, so he still has room to grow. He spent some time with the Slovakia U18 team, potting five goals and seven assists for 12 points in seven games. This young winger has a lot of potential but may need time in the minors. Expect him to play a part of the season with the Laval Rocket.
The three-year contract should give him all the time he needs to develop. The Habs are in no rush to get back to contending status. They are rebuilding and doing so is a long process. Slafkovsky and Mešár can play huge roles in the future, but there’s no need to hurry them. Both are on cheap deals with a very young team waiting for them.
