David Perron Signs With the Detroit Red Wings
Over his 15-year NHL career, Perron has played for the St. Louis Blues (on three different occasions), Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks and Vegas Golden Knights. He was originally drafted in the first round, 26th overall by the Blues in the 2007 NHL Draft.
He has put up 269 goals, 396 assists and 665 points in 973 career regular-season games. He’s also added 718 minutes in penalties. His best regular season came when he was with the Golden Knights in 2017-18. He put up 16 goals, 50 assists and 66 points in 70 games.
Perron has made the playoffs in 10 of his 15 seasons in the league. He has 24 goals, 37 assists and 61 points in 104 career playoff games. He’s also added 84 minutes in penalties. He put up a career-high 16 playoff points (seven goals, including two game-winning goals, and nine assists) in 2019 to help lead the Blues to their first and only Stanley Cup in franchise history.
What This Means for the Future
If the Blues would have been able to get further into the playoffs this season, Perron might have surpassed his career-high in playoff points. He averaged more than a point a game with 13 points in 12 games. In total, he had nine goals, four assists and 13 points in 12 games. He also added 10 minutes in penalties. And in the regular season, he got to 20+ goals for the sixth time in his career. In total, he had 27 goals (11 on the power play), 30 assists and 57 points in 67 games. He also added 48 minutes in penalties. He has the potential to be a first-line forward like he was for the Blues for the majority of this season. For a 34-year-old, he clearly still has a lot to offer. His Stanley Cup-winning experience will be valuable to a young Detroit Red Wings roster.
