Evgenii Dadonov Traded to Anaheim
Although he was promising with the Florida Panthers, Dadonov has not had a very memorable past few seasons.
This is Dadonov’s third new team in 2 years, after having a rough 2020-2021 season with the Ottawa Senators. He put up 13 goals, and 7 assists, being a -9. Dadonov was traded to Vegas during the 2021 offseason. He has struggled in Vegas this season, putting up only 15 goals and 12 assists for 27 points in 62 games as a -3.
Dadonov spent a chunk of his career in the KHL with HC Donbass and SKA St. Petersburg. He made his return to the NHL in 2017-2018, signing a 3 year $12 million deal with the Panthers.
What This Means
For Vegas, it was time to move on from Dadonov. he has not lived up to the 60 point player that he was in Florida. Also, Vegas desperately needed to make moves this deadline. This trade clears a large chunk of cap space for Vegas to make other moves in the offseason.
In the deal, Anaheim gets a forward who has the ability to put up decent numbers as a potential top 6 forward. For now, Anaheim looks to gain solid players to help with the rebuild. Dadonov’s $5 million deal is a contract they can swallow, as they had $11 million in cap space before the trade.
This is yet another chance for Dadonov to prove that he can be the player he was in Florida, after having two straight underwhelming stretches with two teams. If he wants to prove that he can still be an NHL-calibre player, he has to prove himself in what may be his last chance in North America.
Dadonov’s 3-year $15 million deal that he signed with Ottawa expires a the end of the 2022-2023 season.
