Adam Fox injury

The New York Rangers announced on Friday that they have placed defenseman Adam Fox on the Injured Reserve list. Fox’s injury is an upper-body injury. It was suffered in the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.

The Adam Fox Injury Shorthands Rangers Defence

The Adam Fox injury comes at a very unfortunate moment. He was scheduled to appear in the All-Star game this year. However, that now is uncertain after the Rangers placed him on the injured reserve list on Friday.

Fox appeared to go into the boards awkwardly on a check from Blue Jackets defenceman Vladislav Gavrikov. After the incident, he left the dressing room shortly after. Even though being initially listed as day-to-day, the injury status appears to have been upgraded.

Fox has 47 points in 44 games and is a +12 on the season. He won the Norris Trophy last year for best defenceman after a breakout season, in which he put up 47 points in 55 games. The 23-year-old was drafted 66th overall by the Calgary Flames in 2016 but refused to sign with the team. He was a part of the Elias Lindholm trade package going back to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2018. Carolina then flipped him to the Rangers in April 2019. Before signing in the NHL, Fox played for three years at the University of Harvard.

What This Means For The Rangers

This is a significant blow to the Rangers, considering he’s been over a point per game this season and has been selected to participate in the All-Star game. This injury may hinder his chances to participate in the All-Star game. However, the worst part is it also may keep him out depending on how severe the injury is. By the looks of it, it doesn’t look severe, but there may be more that they do not know about Fox’s injury.
