The Last Word on Hockey Show: 2021-22 Metro Division
Jim welcomes everyone to a new season of the show. The boys begin the show giving their love to Carey Price as he enters the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program. Marc, Jim, and Jay send their best wishes to him as his health is bigger than the game. The boys also talk the Canadiens for a bit but will do so more in-depth next week.
2021-22 Metro Division
Jim then transitions the show to the Metro Division preview. There is a great conversation had by all in this episode. The boys agree that the New York Islanders are the class of the division. Considering what they did in the off-season and the belief in their system has them being a favourite to win the division. Not only that they have shown they can make deep runs in the playoffs. As Coach Jay notes, can the Islanders goaltending Semyon Varlamov and Ilya Sorokin stand up over 82 games? Marc notes that style is brutal over a long season, but with a potential break that helps them.
Marc and Jim then talk about the Rangers and the expectations for the season. Jim brings up the Jack Eichel rumours again but was put to bed when Mika Zibanejad signed a new contract. Marc then goes on to talk about how the Rangers need a captain.
From there the boys discuss the rest of the division and who they think will or will not make the playoffs. Coach Jay discusses each team’s goalie tandems. Jim goes in-depth on each team in the division.
In addition to the preview of the Metro Division, Jim talks about the news and notes of the weekend including Aleksander Barkov‘s new contract and the new contracts signed by the RFAs in Vancouver. Plus so many more great conversations inside this episode as hockey is back.
