The Montreal Canadiens have agreed to terms with forward Jake Evans to a three-year contract worth $1.7 million per season. This contract carries him through the 2024-25 season.

Jake Evans Signs Extension In Montreal

The centre based out of Toronto, Ontario over the course of his career has played in a total of 60 NHL games. He’s accumulated a total of 16 points in the form of five goals and 11 assists, adding 29 minutes in penalties. Evans made his debut in the 2019-20 season after being drafted back in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft at 207th overall (seventh round) by the Montreal Canadiens.

In Evans’ rookie season, last year with the Canadiens, the 25-year-old center put up three goals and 10 assists for 13 points in 47 regular-season appearances. On the way to the Stanley Cup Final, Evans added one goal and one assist in an additional seven post-season games of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Before making his debut in Montreal, Evans spent two seasons with the Laval Rockets of the AHL, playing in 118 games, where he put up 27 goals, and 56 assists combining for 83 points. Evans put up three short-handed goals paired with eight powerplay goals, proving his worth on special teams. With Laval, Evans spent 52 minutes in the box splitting his PIM at 26 per season.

Veteran Linemates Help Aid in Rookie Quest

Evans had been struggling to find himself a line where the chemistry was apparent, however, when Joel Armia was sidelined with an injury, he got the chance to fill in alongside two veterans. Head Coach Dominique Ducharme placed Evans on the fourth line where he played with two well-known veterans in Corey Perry, and Eric Staal. The rookie centred the duo of players with over 2000 combined games played, in hopes, the veteran presence would not just help produce points, but aid in the confident gameplay of the young star. Unfortunately, Evans’ time was cut short on that line as he suffered an undisclosed injury in Game 1 of the second round in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs when they matched up against the Winnipeg Jets. Since then, Evans has been working on several lines throughout the off-season and training camp in attempts to find the right fit for him.
