Zetterberg, Kronwall Named Team Sweden Advisors
Zetterberg and Kronwall are two members of the elite Triple Gold Club, having won the Stanley Cup, the World Championships, and Olympic Gold. They will be a huge boon to Team Sweden as they evolve into the next era. Both Detroit Red Wings legends played for Team Sweden multiple times throughout their careers, winning gold in 2006. They were the fastest players in the history of hockey to earn such honours.
Zetterberg served as Team Sweden’s captain in 2014 and has been heavily involved in Sweden’s roster since then. To say that these two are household names in Sweden is an understatement — they’re widely regarded as some of the best Swedes to ever play hockey. Both players were huge pieces in the Red Wings’ Stanley Cup victory in 2008. Zetterberg went on to win the Conn Smythe Trophy after shutting down Sidney Crosby in the Finals.
What This Means for the Team
The addition of these two titans will greatly benefit the Tre Konor. From Zetterberg’s intense two-way knowledge to Kronwall’s smart defensive play, the team will likely have a lot to work with. While the team’s roster hasn’t been announced yet, it’s likely Sweden will bring big names like Gabriel Landeskog, William Nylander, and Victor Hedman to the forefront.
It remains to be seen how much they’ll be involved with Team Sweden. Both Kronwall and Zetterberg have won Olympic Gold. They know firsthand what it takes to win. It’s likely that they’ll have a say in who makes the 2022 Olympic roster.
