On Friday, the St. Louis Blues announced that they have re-signed restricted free agent forward Ivan Barbashev to a two-year contract. Barbashev’s new deal is worth $4.5 million or $2.25 million AAV. The contract keeps the 25-year-old with the Blues through the end of the 2022-23 season.

Ivan Barbashev Re-Signs With the St. Louis Blues
Last season, Barbashev scored five goals and seven assists for 12 points. He also added six minutes in penalties in 36 games played. His possession numbers were 47.8 percent Corsi-for and a relative Corsi of -0.3. Barbashev added one assist in four games as the Blues were swept by the Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Barbashev has spent his entire six-year NHL career with St. Louis. He has 42 goals and 47 assists for 89 career points in 270 career NHL games. Barbashev has also added three goals and four assists for seven points in 38 career Stanley Cup Playoff Games. He was part of the Blue 2019 Stanley Cup Champion team. Barbashev was originally drafted by the Blues in the second round, 33rd overall in the 2014 NHL Draft.
The Blues remaining restricted free agents still to sign are Dakota Joshua, Jordan Kyrou, Zach Sanford and Robert Thomas.
Barbashev is a solid two-way forward who provides versatility in the Blues bottom lines. He can play a defensive role at five-on-five as well as kill penalties. Barbashev provides the Blues with versatility, as he can work on both the wing and at centre. Now 25-years-old the Blues will hope that the Russian is finally coming into his prime and can provide even more secondary scoring.
