Joel Armia On COVID List and Won’t Travel To Tampa To Begin Stanley Cup Final
The Canadiens will be missing a key piece of their lineup when the puck drops on Game 1 Monday night. Joel Armia will not be with the team to begin the Stanley Cup Final. General manager Bergevin said the team will give more updates on Monday prior to Game 1 beginning. Armia has been a force playing alongside Corey Perry and Eric Staal during this playoffs run for the Canadiens. In 17 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs for Montreal, Armia has recorded five goals and three assists. During 41 games in the regular season, Armia had seven goals and seven assists.
This is the second time this season that Armia has been placed on the NHL COVID-19 protocol list. The first time happening on March 22nd, that saw the Canadiens shut down their facility for 14 days. Remember the Canadiens are already without interim head coach Dominique Ducharme, who was placed on the NHL COVID-19 Protocol list prior to Game 3 against the Vegas Golden Knights last round. The Canadiens announced that Ducharme will be back for Game 3 of the Stanely Cup Final when the series shifts to Montreal.
Going Forward
When there is bad news, there is always some good news as well. With Armia out of the lineup, the Canadiens will get Jake Evans back in the lineup. Evans was spotted at Canadiens practice wearing a full-contact jersey skating with Perry and Staal on the fourth line. Recall Evans has been out of the lineup since being stretchered off in Game 1 against Winnipeg after receiving a hit from Mark Scheifele. Evans was having himself a solid playoff run before his injury. The Canadiens are hoping he can pick up where he left off.
Montreal’s hope is that no other players end up on the COVID list considering the magical run they are on this postseason.
