There are five games on the schedule for Tuesday, May 12th. In addition, we also offer a featured game of the day. Today’s featured game is the Edmonton Oilers vs Montreal Canadiens.

Edmonton Oilers vs Montreal Canadiens

Head-to-Head: Oilers 3–5 Canadiens 

Welcome to our featured game this evening between the Edmonton Oilers vs Montreal Canadiens. The Edmonton Oilers (34-18-2) hold down the second spot in the North with 70 points and a .648 winning percentage. Montreal (24-21-10) locked down the fourth and final playoff spot with a 4-3 overtime loss to Edmonton Monday evening. The Oilers have one game remaining after the trip in Montreal. As for the Canadiens, they will wrap up the regular season following the match.

As the Oilers prepare to enclose a solid regular season, the team and fans can look back and smile. The Oilers captain, Connor McDavid, became the quickest player to reach 100 points in the last 25 years. McDavid made the accomplishment in 53 games played. The superstar has 10 points versus Montreal this season, including the recent overtime winner. 

Mike Smith’s top-notch performance has played a great part in the Oiler’s success this season. The netminder has won 20 out of 29 games started while recording three shutouts and a .924 save percentage. Edmonton ranks fourth in the NHL in goals-against with 141 and holds a .920 team save percentage.

In the Canadiens recent matchup versus Edmonton, the fourth line would produce all three goals. Jake Evans would be the first to light the lamp while collecting two assists. Tyler Toffoli is having a productive season for Montreal as the 28-year-old leads the team with 28 goals and 44 points. Nick Suzuki has been extraordinary recently as the 21-year-old has tallied nine points over his last seven games.

Can the Canadiens their three-game losing skid? The team is 4-5-1 during their last 10 games and could do with a boost before the playoffs. Edmonton has won nine of their last 13 games in Montreal.

Prediction: Oilers win 4-2

Minnesota Wild vs St. Louis Blues

Head-to-Head: Wild 2-4 Blues 

Coming off an overtime win against the Anaheim Ducks, the Minnesota Wild will visit the St. Louis Blues in back-to-back meetings to close the season. Minnesota has yet to win in St. Louis this season, being outscored 11-4 in those games. Each team has won their previous game, and will be participating in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Minnesota leads the NHL in shooting percentage with 11.5 while averaging 3.3 goals on 28.4 shots per game. Kirill Kaprizov leads all rookies this season with 51 points and could be a lock for the Calder Trophy. He also leads his team with 27 goals. Minnesota has won two straight games and three of their last four. St. Louis is coming off their first victory in four games. The team ranks 15th in goals scored and 21st in goals allowed this season.

Prediction: Wild win 4-2

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Ottawa Senators

Head-to-Head: Leafs 4–3 Senators

Aiming for their fifth straight home win is the Ottawa Senators, who host Toronto Maple Leafs. Ottawa sits sixth in the North Division with 49 points. However, the team has had a solid finish, during the team’s last 15 games played, the team has won nine. Connor Brown leads the Senators with 20 goals on the season.  

The last time these two teams met, Toronto was victorious 6-5. Auston Matthews would hit the back of the net three times for Toronto in that game. Matthews leads the league in goals with 40 and has scored eight goals during his last 10 games. 

Toronto’s goaltending carousel continues as Frederik Andersen will make his return tonight. The netminder has 13 wins along with a .897 save percentage.

Prediction: Leafs win 3-2 OT

Vegas Golden Knights vs San Jose Sharks 

Head-to-Head: Knights 7 –0 Sharks 

The Vegas Golden Knights will need a win versus San Jose Sharks to uphold as the leaders in the West. Vegas has been playing considerably well all season, with their offence rolling. Vegas has scored three or more goals in eight of their recent 10 games played. The team has given up two goals or less during seven of their last 10 games. Goaltending and defence throughout the season have been outstanding for Vegas as the team ranks first in goals against per game, second in save percentage and fourth with fewest shots allowed per game.

San Jose will cross off their final day of the NHL calendar season and look ahead for the following season to come. Evander Kane had an impressive season, leading San Jose with 22 goals and 49 points. He has recorded one or more points in seven of his recent nine outings.

Vegas Golden Knights are 4-0 in their last four Wednesday games, looking to extend to 5-0.

Prediction: Knights win 6-2

Los Angeles Kings vs Colorado Avalanche

Head-to-Head: Kings 1 –5 Avalanche 

Heading into the final West matchup, the Los Angeles Kings have lost four straight games while facing Colorado Avalanche. This evening’s matchup will be game one of a back-to-back to finish the season for both teams. Colorado has won three consecutive games with two games in hand on Vegas with a two-point gap. Colorado will aim to put the Kings away in both of the games for a chance to win the division.

Offensively Colorado has been on fire as the team ranks second in shots per game, goals per game and 10th in shooting percentage. Nathan MacKinnon is the team leader with 65 points, while Mikko Rantanen leads in goals scored with 30. Netminder Philipp Grubauer has had a tremendous season owning a 29-9-1 record with a .921 save percentage. The 29-year-old ranks second among all goalies this season with six shutouts and tied for third in goals-against average. 

Los Angeles is 12-12-2 while playing on the road, which is better than their home record. Anze Kopitar leads the Kings with four game-winning goals and 50 points this season. The Kings are winless in their last five games versus a team with a winning record.

Prediction: Avalanche win 5-1
