The Last Word on Hockey Show

Taylor Hall Trade

Jim welcomes Jamie and Carter to this special show. He begins by talking about the trade that sent Taylor Hall to the Boston Bruins. All agree that Hall will be a good fit for the Bruins adding that depth scoring they so desperately need especially on that second line. Jamie brings up the point that the Buffalo Sabres could have gotten more for him considering the other deals out there. It feels the Sabres just settled for that deal. They had until 3 pm on Monday to make a deal. You have to wonder if they just wanted to get him out.

Anthony Mantha

The next trade the boys look at is the blockbuster at the end of the day. Anthony Mantha traded to the Washington Capitals from the Detroit Red Wings for Richard Panik, Jakub Vrana, a 1st and 2nd round pick. Carter brings up what a genius Steve Yzerman is and he always finds a way to make a deal like this. Jamie feels Detroit will be going in a few years as Yzerman is building a winner there. And finally, Jim adds to the fact that Washington gets a player with term left on his deal. Instead of having to deal with Vrana who is an RFA at the end of the year.

Jeff Carter To Pittsburgh

Carter brings up the Jeff Carter trade to Pittsburgh. He says this is a solid move by the Penguins. With the connection between Ron Hextall and Jeff Carter from their Los Angeles Kings days, this deal makes sense. In addition, having a guy who has won multiple Stanley Cups will help the Penguins. Jim mentions he is still not sold on them considering their recent history in the playoffs.

Philadelphia Flyers

With The Philly Sports Guy on the show, Jim brings up the moves the Flyers made. Jamie is happy with Erik Gustafsson trade. Felt he was not a fit with Philadelphia anymore. He also feels that Michael Raffl will bring a lot to the Washington Capitals. Felt he was always a playoff performer. Then there is the Scott Laughton deal. Jamie feels it is a good deal for him. It is at a reasonable salary where the Flyers are not hurt going forward.

New York Islanders

Jim then moves on talking about the Islanders with Carter. He brings up the deals that saw Lou Lamoriello acquire Kyle Palmieri, Travis Zajac, and Brayden Coburn. Carter likes the Zajac for depth down the middle. He feels while Palmieri will fill the void of Anders Lee for scoring, he won’t do it with his leadership. And all three agree that Coburn was a sneaky good play. Coburn is a proven winner and he is a great depth piece for the Islanders.

In addition to the topics above the boys discuss other topics include the Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, Tampa Bay Lightning, and so much more!!
