The Last Word on Hockey Show: New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, and Toronto Maple Leafs

Jack Campbell

Another week in the NHL means The Last Word on Hockey Show is back on the MAD Radio Network and North East Streaming Sports. Your host Jim Biringer from lastwordonhockey.com was back alongside Coach Jay and special guest Ron Grossman filling in for Marc Weiss who was on assignment. The boys take a trip around the NHL looking at the big stories of the week. This week they look at the trade that sent Brendan Lemieux to the Los Angeles Kings, Cole Caufield signing in Montreal, the play of Jack Campbell for Toronto, and much more.

The Last Word on Hockey Show

Brendan Lemieux Trade

Jim opens the show welcoming everyone back. He brings up the news of the week including two things that happened after last week’s show went off the air. Jim talks about the New York Rangers trading Brendan Lemieux to the Los Angeles Kings. Coach Jay jumps in with his theory on why this was a bad move considering the Rangers don’t play with that physical edge needed this time of year. Ron gives his two cents on the move as well as why players need a change of scenery.

Cole Caufield Signing

Jim transitions the show over to the Montreal Canadiens and the signing of Cole Caufield. The boys talk about his accomplishments in NCAA and at the World Junior level, however, Ron is skeptical of Caufield being successful at the NHL level. Ron mentions how it is a different game and there is a quicker pace to the game. They all agree it will be best for Caufield to adjust to the pro game in the AHL and it would wise for the Canadiens not to rush him along. Montreal has had too many misses lately when it comes to drafting players. Jim brings up the example of Ryah Poehling.

Jack Campbell Shining For Maple Leafs

Speaking of guys that needed a change of scenery, with two goalies on the show, Jim brings up the play of Jack Campbell for the Toronto Maple Leafs. This kid has been lights out for Toronto. His record and numbers speak for themselves. Campbell was highly touted when he was drafted in Dallas, but bounced around to the Kings and now the Maple Leafs. As Ron notes it takes time for young players to develop and Campbell is finally hitting his stride. The Maple Leafs have a lot of questions to deal especially with Frederik Andersen still side-lined. The biggest one is do they look for a goalie at the deadline?
In addition to the topics above the boys discuss other topics include the treatment of star players like Connor McDavid when it comes to suspensions, as well as the New Jersey Devils.
Enjoy!
