Another week in the NHL means The Last Word on Hockey Show is back on the MAD Radio Network and North East Streaming Sports. Your host Jim Biringer from lastwordonhockey.com and Marc Weiss were live on location with Coach Jay at his house. The boys take a trip around the NHL looking at the big stories of the week. This week they look at the trade that sent Eric Staal to the Montreal Canadiens, the red hot New York Rangers, the struggling Philadelphia Flyers, and much more.
The Last Word on Hockey Show
Eric Staal Trade
The boys open the show talking about the trade that sent Eric Staal to the Montreal Canadiens. As we know some of the Canadiens faithful were not happy about the trade. As Jim mentions the Canadiens are in the market for a defenceman. However, the cap space will be an issue. However, Marc and Jim agree Staal is a depth move for Montreal. And while he may not be the player he used to be, he will help in the lineup.
New York Rangers
Jim then transitions the show to the red hot New York Rangers. More specifically the play of Mika Zibanejad. The boys talk about his 12 point performance against the Flyers. It appears Zibanejad is over COVID-19 and it shows. His play has picked up. The Rangers are starting to get healthy and clicking on all cylinders. Having Artemi Panarin back in the lineup is helping too. Not to mention the play of Adam Fox and K’Andre Miller.
Philadelphia Flyers
Speaking of the Flyers, Jim transitions the show over to their struggles. He gets Coach Jay into the picture and more specifically the confidence or lack thereof spreading to the goaltender. Brian Elliott and Carter Hart are not the problems, but when things are not going well, it can spread to other parts of a team’s game. And even the best goalie can get rattled if things are not going well. Everyone agrees Flyers need to get their acts together if they want to fight for that fourth spot in the East Division.
