Anaheim Ducks’ Josh Manson Out Six Weeks with Oblique Injury

Josh Manson

The Anaheim Ducks announced that defenceman Josh Manson is out for approximately six weeks with an oblique muscle injury.

Anaheim Ducks’ Josh Manson Injured

Manson was hurt on Monday, during the game against the Minnesota Wild. He left the game after the first period and did not return after. He only played six minutes before he left the ice. It’s not surprising he’s out for a long period of time as he was unable to practice Tuesday. He was placed on Injury Reserve on Thursday.

Over his seven-year NHL career, Manson has only played for the Anaheim Ducks. He has 21 goals and 76 assists for 97 career points in 388 career games. He was drafted by the Ducks in the sixth round, 160th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

This season he has played in three games for the Ducks before he got injured.

What This Means for the Future

Manson plays a physical game and is a consistent defenceman for the Ducks. With his injury, Anaheim loses a little on that side. However, he is not that hard to replace and the Ducks have some options to use while the defenceman is out.

Jani Hakanpaa was the chosen one to replace Manson on Monday, along with Kevin Shattenkirk. Hakanpaa also replaced Manson on Wednesday’s game against Minnesota. It looks like he will be the one who takes over Manson’s minutes. It wouldn’t be the wisest decision to make Hakanpaa, a player with only nine games in the NHL, take such a big role.

The Ducks still need to get another defenceman to fill the spot and Ben Hutton would probably be a good choice. Hutton was signed on January 15th to a one year deal worth $950,000 for one year. He missed training camp but if he’s ready, it would be a great deal for Anaheim to get him on the ice. The defenceman played for the Los Angeles Kings during the 2019-20 season
