Maxim Lapierre Retires After 10 Seasons in NHL

Maxim Lapierre has announced his retirement from professional hockey. The 35-year-old played ten NHL seasons.

Maxim Lapierre has announced his retirement from professional hockey. Lapierre, a 6′-2″ right-shot centre played 10 seasons in the NHL. He announced his retirement at the age of 35.

Maxim Lapierre Retires From Pro Hockey

Over his 10-year NHL career, Lapierre played for five different organizations. He started his career with the Montreal Canadiens, who drafted him 61st overall in the second round of the 2003 NHL draft. He would then end up playing for the Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues, and briefly for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He spent more time with Montreal than any other team he played for. Over the course of his career, Lapierre scored a total of 65 goals, 74 assists, and 139 points in 614 games played. This was good for a career average of about 19 points per season. He was also able to tally 15 points in 80 career playoff games.

After his NHL Career

After his final NHL season in 2014-15, Lapierre went on to play a part of a season for MODO in the SHL. That same year he went to play for HC Lugano of the NLA, the top professional league in Switzerland. He went on to play for Lugano from the 2015-16 season through the 2018-19 season. He was an alternate captain for the team during his last two seasons with them.

Lapierre also had a chance to represent Team Canada in the 2017-18 Olympic Games, as NHL players were not permitted to participate. He scored just one goal and zero assists in six games played. The team would go on to win the bronze medal that year.

Finally, to finish his career, Maxim Lapierre played for Eisbaren Berlin in the DEL during the 2019-20 season. In 50 games with Berlin, Lapierre scored 11 goals and 23 assists for a total of 34 points.
