Micheal Haley and the Ottawa Senators Agree to Terms on a Contract

Micheal Haley

The Ottawa Senators and centre Micheal Haley have come to an agreement on a two-way contract worth $700,000 that will keep him in the organization for one season.

Micheal Haley Signs With Ottawa

The Ottawa Senators have a new addition to the roster. They have signed journeyman Micheal Haley. A veteran of 270 career NHL games, Haley has played in parts of 11 seasons. During the 2016-17 season, Haley played the most games in one year of his career with 75 as a member of the Florida Panthers. Haley has also played for the New York Islanders, New York Rangers, and San Jose Sharks during his career.

With only 32 points in his entire professional career, Micheal Haley has made his way onto NHL rosters in a grit-and-grind role. He has never been an exceptional scorer as a professional, but he has excelled as a physical presence. While it is somewhat unlikely Haley gets a lot of NHL playing time, he should be a valuable presence nonetheless.

As a veteran of 11 NHL seasons, Haley has proven that he has what it takes to play at this level, star or not. There are not many who can claim such an accomplishment. The Ottawa Senators are an organization that is undergoing a promising rebuild. There are a lot of young talents that should become mainstays in the NHL in the not too distant future already within the organization. Even if Micheal Haley plays mainly with the Belleville Senators, of the AHL, he will have an opportunity to mentor some of these prospects. He can teach them how to play with a physical edge. While he may not produce a lot of points on a nightly basis, he provides valuable knowledge. With that said, Ottawa has a weak NHL roster that Haley could crack.
