Connor Brown Stays in Ottawa
The 6′-0″, 183 pound winger will be awarded with a $3.6 million AAV contract to continue playing with the Senators. The 156th overall selection by the Toronto Maple Leafs had a good 2019-20 season tallying 16 goals and 27 assists for 43 points participating in 71 games. His career stats show 59 goals and 83 assists for 142 points in 324 games. This deal will take him through the 2022-23 season. The 26-year-old forward went to arbitration, but got the result he seeked.
Brown also was helpful on the power play as he has contributed seven goals and 10 assists over his five-year NHL career. His possession numbers are adequate with a Corsi For of 49.4, and a Relative Corsi of -1.6. His 0.44 points per game show he is worthy of this contract renewal.
What This Means Going Forward
The Sens were very active in free agency and the draft in this offseason. They have added goalie Matt Murray, and forward Evgenii Dadonov to their roster. The retention of Brown will be huge in their quest to become a competitive team. So much so that their owner has predicted that they will win the Cup within four years. That is yet to be seen, but they certainly had improved their roster. They drafted Tim Stuetzle with the third overall selection and followed that up by taking smooth skating defenceman Jake Anderson with the fifth choice.
The Sens may not win a Cup anytime soon, but they certainly have improved their club substantially. Keeping Brown turned out to be a good decision. His production is solid and he will be a great second-line forward for the term of his contract.
