Key Boston Bruins Players Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak Will Miss Time

Two key forwards on the ‘perfection line’ will be unable to start the season due to surgeries. Both Marchand and Pastrnak’s absence will put a huge hole on their key line when the season begins.

Brad Marchand

Marchand underwent a sports hernia repair surgery on September 14th. The surgery was successful and he is expected to be back in action in about four months from the date of the surgery, or approximately the end of January. NHL Commissioner Gary Bateman has projected that he expects the new season to start the beginning of January. Marchand’s career stats are quite outstanding. He’s had 290 goals and 356 assists for 646 points in 751 games. Brad Marchand is valuable on the power play with 52 goals and 82 assists. He averages 17:40  minutes of ice time.

Marchand’s absence will assuredly be missed as he has had a 1.24 points per game scoring average. His 28 goals and 59 assists for 87 points in 70 games last season and will be a shortcoming until he can return in good health to participate. He also will be tough to replace on that top line with his 15.7 percent shooting accuracy. General manager Don Sweeney will have his hands full trying to find a player to step into Marchand’s role. It will definitely be impossible to replace Brad Marchand’s personality on the team.

David Pastrnak

Marchand’s linemate Pastrnak will be gone for about five months from the September 16th surgery he underwent. He suffered from a right hip arthroscopy injury and is expected to follow Marchand in getting back in action. Pastrnak’s offensive game will be gone for perhaps two months of play due to his recovery. He has had 180 goals and 199 assists for 379 points in 390 NHL games. His 14.7 percent shooting accuracy makes him a go-to player. Pastrnak has had 62 power goals and 66 power play assists. He averages 17:07 of ice time.

On a Good Note

Charlie McAvoy underwent right knee arthroscopy on September 8th and the procedure was successful and he is expected to be available for the start of the new season.

What This Means Going Forward

The fact that two of the top line members recovering from surgery will be missing when the new season begins is distressing for the Bruins’ club. It’s beyond tough to replace the offensive output these two players exhibit. Injuries are part of the game and the other Boston players will need to step up in their absence.
